Maine Medical Center Acquires New Donors with the Help of Blackbaud® NetCommunity™ Team Fundraising

The Maine Medical Center (MMC) Development Program develops resources and community awareness which support the medical center in providing access to the best health care services available in our region. The Development Program mission specifically focuses on building relationships with the individuals, corporations, and foundations that have interest in providing the finest health care services to the people of Maine. The Program oversees and implements all aspects of a comprehensive program, including the capital campaigns, annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, foundation grants, memorial gifts, endowment gifts, The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network, Maine Children’s Cancer Program, Maine Medical Center Research Initiative, and special capital initiatives.

The Challenge:

• Maine Medical Center had five team fundraising events and needed a way to enable participants to set up their own web pages and email solicitations to friends and family.
• With more and more constituents online and the increasing desire to fundraise via its website, MMC needed to provide a way to make fundraising easier, more convenient, and online.
• Maine Medical Center had been using traditional, grassroots fundraising and needed to enhance its fundraising practices to include online team fundraising.

The Solution:

• Maine Medical Center selected Blackbaud NetCommunity with “sponsor me” fundraising to enhance the organization’s five fundraising programs: Laura Vogel Memorial 5K, Climb for Cancer, Strike out Cancer in Kids, Polar Plunge, and its annual statewide walk.
• Team Fundraising empowers event participants to create their own web pages and send personalized email messages to friends and family to raise donations.
• With Team Fundraising, the staff at Maine Medical Center can spend less time on the administrative tasks associated with the old, traditional method of event fundraising.

The Results:

• Because of the tremendous success using Team Fundraising for its five programs, Maine Medical Center has added five additional programs that will also use Team Fundraising.
• Since implementing Blackbaud NetCommunity, MMC has increased the number of online donations by 40 percent.
• With Blackbaud NetCommunity, the organization also increased the amount raised online by 31 percent.
