Moves Management in The Raiser's Edge
Jennifer Paquette, Consultant, Blackbaud, Inc.
Jenny Cooke, Consultant, Blackbaud, Inc.

Do you visit prospects, craft proposals, solicit individuals or organizations for donations, and cultivate and steward donors? The actions you take to bring in donors, forge relationships, and keep the contributions coming are known as moves, and "moves management" is the system of policies and procedures that guides these actions. Also known as "prospect pipeline management," this process moves prospects through successive pipelines including identification, qualification, cultivation, final preparation, solicitation, and stewardship — always with the intent of progressively converting prospects into donors while predicting future gifts. While commonly employed within universities and other large-scale advancement operations, moves management is easily scalable so as to be effective for smaller shops, as well. Being able to accurately forecast gift income from prospects and evaluate staff performance enhances your overall fundraising program while helping you raise more money. Implementing an effective moves management strategy today will yield results for your organization for years to come. This lesson will focus on the Prospect tab, which is available to Raiser’s Edge users that have the optional module RE:Search.
