| Test Technology: Ensuring Quality through Robust Automation |
David Tunesi, Director of Accounting and Education Solutions, Blackbaud, Inc. Tom Ramsey, Engineer, Blackbaud, Inc.
The mantra of developing quality products is to test early, test often, and test well. In an age where software needs to be portable and development cycles are shorter, robust automation is essential to providing product quality. By leveraging Microsoft® .Net 3.0 and the principles of keyword-based testing, Blackbaud has created an architecture allowing automation to navigate products just as a user would. Keyword based testing is the leading theory that by automating the product in one central location, test cases can be simplified to human readable lists of these “building blocks” in XML. Backed by Microsoft® IntelliSense and integrated into the build process, Blackbaud is able to have quality assurance analysts write test cases that run against every internal build, ensuring defects are caught as they are introduced. |
