Questions Specific to SAP® Crystal Reports®
Citrix Apps EOS Questions Specific to Crystal Reports
-
What is SAP Crystal Reports?
Crystal Reports is a custom reporting tool from SAP that allows the creation, editing, and running of reports through the Citrix interface using data from Raiser’s Edge®, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT®, Financial Edge®, Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT®, and Education Edge™. Some customers may have Crystal Reports in their on-premise environment, and those customers are not impacted by this change. Blackbaud FIMS™ customers are also not impacted by this change.
-
What if I need to create a new Crystal Report or edit an existing one?
There are several options for next steps, which are outlined in this Knowledgebase article. The following summarizes those detailed recommendations.
To create a new Crystal Report or edit an existing one, you may:
- Update your existing reports before December 15, 2021 to accommodate potential future needs.
- Engage with a Blackbaud partner to either create and edit your Crystal Reports, or possibly fully serve your Crystal Reports needs.
- Purchase your own license for Crystal Reports directly from SAP.
To consider other reporting alternatives, you may:
- For NXT customers, it’s recommended you use NXT Dashboards to accomplish the same reporting you are doing in Crystal Reports.
- Engage with a Blackbaud partner to establish your reporting in a new solution.
-
What does end of support or retirement mean?
After December 15, 2021, you will no longer be able to access the Crystal Reports application through the Citrix interface or database view menu in Azure. This means you will be unable to create new or edit old reports in Crystal Reports but will still be able to run existing reports from the Custom Reports section inside Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge, or Education Edge. You will also still be able to create, run, and edit standard reports within Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge, or Education Edge.
-
What is not changing?
While standard reporting in Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge, Education Edge, RE NXT and FE NXT (database view) use Crystal components, standard reporting will be unaffected because it doesn’t require the user to open the Crystal Reports application. For the same reason, any reports accessed through Custom Reports in RE/FE will still run and can be linked to exports and .rpt files as they are now.
-
Our fiscal year ends at the end of December. What should we consider for end-of-year reporting?
If your end of year reports rely on standard reporting that doesn’t require the Crystal Reports application, your process doesn’t need to change. If you use custom Crystal Reports in your end of year reporting, consider the changes you would need to make to the .rpt files, and make any changes before 12/15. In addition, see the other options available to you, which are outlined in the FAQ titled, "What if I need to create a new Crystal Report or edit an existing one".
-
Can you give me a copy of Crystal Reports so I can run it locally?
No. The Crystal Reports license being used by Blackbaud in our Citrix environment cannot be transferred to individual customers for their use at their local site. Also, the Crystal Reports version in our Citrix hosting environment is obsolete and no longer supported by SAP, so it is not possible to purchase a local copy of the same version. If you need a local copy, we suggest purchasing the latest version from SAP. Information is available in this Knowledgebase article.
General Overview Questions
Citrix Apps EOS General Overview Questions
-
Why is support ending now?
We routinely evaluate third-party applications that are accessed via our Citrix environment as part of our ongoing product modernization efforts. The decision to retire a few applications hosted within those environments is in support of those ongoing efforts. Additionally, through routine security reviews, we may determine that certain third-party software/applications within our environments could introduce additional risk in our product architecture for our customers and to Blackbaud. That point also factored into this end of service effort.
-
What does it mean to end support for something in the Citrix environment?
Ending support for these apps within Citrix means they will no longer be available after the specified end date. Following the end of support date, these application icons may still be visible in your solution. However, users may receive an error message when attempting to access them. We will be removing these icons over the coming months.
-
I have a Blackbaud Hosting Services contract for one of these applications; what does that mean?
Blackbaud will end your agreement for the specific application on the end of support date. We will adjust your contract and invoices accordingly.
-
Will other third-party applications within the Citrix environment be retired?
We will continue to review third-party applications that are accessed via our Citrix environments and will communicate directly with your organization should other applications you use be retired.
-
I don’t use one or more of the applications listed in the email. Do I need to do anything?
If your organization does not use one or more of the applications outlined in the email you received, you have no action to take.
-
I have questions that aren’t answered on this page. Where can I get help?
