Learning Tools for Assignments
Currently, the only LTI provider tools available for Assignments are SoftChalk and TurnItIn. In the future, more options may be added.
If TurnItIn is set up as an LTI provider tool, teachers will see an option to enable it from Add New Assignment when they select TurnItIn under File Submission.
Note: If a Third party submission like TurnItIn is selected, the Learning Tool option will be completely disabled, as only one learning tool can be active at once.
A Course Section will be created in TurnItIn if one did not already exist..
The Course Roster will automatically be populated in TurnItIn if it has not already been added. If the roster is already populated, it is updated to include the user who launched TurnItIn if they are not already there.
The Assignment will be created in TurnItIn.
The TurnItIn Inbox for teachers will appear within an iFrame on Assignment Detail. From here, teachers can access Settings to configure their TurnItIn options.
The value of all of the above is the elimination of duplicate user provisioning for your admins as well as a simplified workflow for teachers and students within one system, onCampus.
When students select the Assignment Detail for a TurnItIn enabled assignment within onCampus they will also be able to launch the TurnItIn experience right from onCampus. They can submit documents to TurnItIn without having to authenticate into another system.
Teachers will see student submissions within the TurnItIn inbox on the Assignment Detail which includes the originality score. Teachers can select the title to open it in TurnItIn which allows them to use additional features like GradeMark or PeerMark.
When TurnItIn is used, Grade Book is required as assignment grades that are added through TurnItIn sync back to the onCampus Grade Book.
If SoftChalk is set up as an LTI provider tool, you will see an option to enable it from Add New Assignment when selected from Learning Tools. You'll then be required to add the SoftChalk Launch URL as well.
Note: If SoftChalk is selected, the Third party submission option will be completely disabled, as only one learning tool can be active at once.
Before teachers can use SoftChalk with onCampus LTI, they first need to first create an account on the SoftChalk website directly. From here, teachers first create their lessons which can then be linked and used within onCampus.
Once the lesson is ready, a LTI Link is provided, which you will need to use within onCampus Assignments. After SoftChalk is selected as the Learning Tool for a new Assignment, the URL needs to be added as the LTI Link, which will then pull in the previously created lesson into this assignment.
After teachers save the Assignment, the SoftChalk ScoreCenter appears once the tool is launched from onCampus. The ScoreCenter gives teachers a detailed breakdown of grades, assignment attempts, and other statistics.
Students who select Launch from Assignment Detail will open the created lesson right from their onCampus view as well, eliminating the need to authenticate into a different place.
