Create a Course Section

Once an Academic Group Manager has offered a course, they can create sections. Sections can be added manually or imported using the Data Import process. New course sections can be added at any time.

Tip: Don't see what you're looking for? Before you can create course sections, your course must be created and offered.

  1. From the persona menu, select Academics.

  2. Next, choose Scheduling and then Requests and schedules. Check the dropdown menus near the top of the screen. Make sure you are in Academics (see the far-right menu) and looking at the correct school level and academic year.

  3. Select the Manage classes tab to see a complete list of courses.

  4. Select the triple-dot icon (...) beside a course name. Select Manage classes.

  5. Select + Add Section.  If +Add Section is missing, this is likely because the length of the course exceeds the number of terms remaining in the school year after your selected term. Select an earlier term to add a section.

  6. Under Class details, select a section Identifier and Gender (if applicable).

  7. Under Meetings, choose a method from the Schedule using menu.

    • If you choose Block, you will be prompted to select a Block and Building/Room. Add more meeting times as needed below.

    • If you choose Specific meetings, you will be prompted to choose a Building/Room and then select Cycle day and time slots.

  8. Under Teacher, select a teacher, choose a Role, and add additional teachers as needed.

    One teacher can be selected as Head teacher.

  9. Under Student, you can manually enroll students.

  10. Select Save all or Save all and close. Either option will save your changes for all sections for this course.

  1. From the persona menu, select Academics.

  2. Next, choose Scheduling and then Requests and schedules. Check the dropdown menus near the top of the screen. Make sure you are in Academics (see the far-right menu) and looking at the correct school level and academic year.

  3. Select Manage classes to see a complete list of courses.

  4. Select any column header to sort the search results according to the contents of that column. You can also add or remove columns by selecting Columns.

  5. Use the Filter to only display courses for certain Grade levels, Departments, Terms, etc.

If your school is using Generate Schedules, you will have the option to create course sections in bulk.

  1. From the persona menu, select Academics.

  2. Next, choose Scheduling, Requests and schedules. Check the dropdown menus near the top of the screen. Make sure you are in Academics (see the far-right menu) and looking at the correct school level and academic year.

  3. Select Manage classes followed by Create classes in bulk.

  4. Enter the following:

    • Create course sections using
      Choose if the course should use the target number of sections, or the calculated number.

      Note: The calculated number of sections to create is based on the number of course requests divided by the target section size for each course.

    • If calculated sections is lower than minimum
      If Generate master schedule will be calculating sections, choose how the system should handle creating sections when the minimum is not met.

    • If calculated sections is higher than maximum
      If Generate master schedule will be calculating sections, choose how the system should handle creating sections when the maximum is exceeded.

    • Courses without requests
      Choose how the system should handle creating sections if no requests are entered.

    • Clear existing course sections
      Selecting this box will replace existing course sections with the sections being added.

      Note: Sections cannot be deleted or replaced if tied to enrollment, grading, or attendance data.

    • Include courses in the following departments
      Choose the departments to create sections for.

  5. Select Create classes.

Sections with unique identifiers will be automatically created. You can now review sections and add your teachers, students, and scheduling information.

  1. Navigate to Academics > Scheduling > Requests and schedules > Manage classes.

  2. Using the filters, select the appropriate School Year, School Level, Term, and Group type.

  3. Search for the course and locate the course.

  4. Select the context menu next to the course > Manage classes.

  5. If the course has multiple sections, use the select on the left to choose the section you want to remove.

  6. Select Delete this section.

    Note: If Delete this section is not available, it's likely that there is information missing, which is indicated by a red warning symbol. Please note that courses from previous school years or semesters that have already been completed or are currently in progress cannot be deleted.

  7. Once the section is removed, select Save all and close.
