Student Medical Information (For Parents)

When you share medical information, you help your school care for your child’s health. Because medical information must be HIPAA and FERPA compliant, only authorized individuals can view a student’s specific medical information. For more information, ask your school nurse for information about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) .

  1. Log in to your school’s site.

  2. Open your child’s record and select Medical.

  3. Review information the school may have already entered.

  4. To inform the school about other health concerns, select + Add New from the appropriate summary tile.

Tip: Contact the school nurse if the option you need doesn’t appear in a dropdown menu.

  5. Choose which staff should be authorized to view this specific information (in addition to the school nurse).

  6. Select Save & Close or Save & Add Another for additional entries. The school nurse is automatically informed of the changes to the student’s medical information.

  7. The nurse will review the changes and handle the child’s care accordingly. If the nurse believes that you may have authorized viewers who shouldn’t know this information, the nurse will further restrict the list of authorized viewers. The nurse cannot authorize additional viewers.
