To create a New Page or Create Single Component Page

  1. Click the Create a New Page or Create a Single Component Page link.

    Tip: Select Finish to leave the Page blank and continue the set up process without adding content.

  2. Complete the Identify Page options:

    1. Name - Enter a unique label to help other administrators identify the purpose of the Page while viewing the Page List in the Page Library. You can enter up to 64 letters and numbers as well as the underscore (_) character.

    2. Description - Enter text to display with the Name in the Page List to help administrators distinguish this Page from similar Pages in the Page List in the Page Library. You can enter up to 512 letters and numbers.

    3. Security Category - Define who can edit and work with this Page and its Versions, as well as which users can see it:

      • Leave the default selection.

      • Or, click the appropriate option from the drop-down list.

    1. Page Locale (displays when Multiple Locale Support is enabled in the product configuration - Select the appropriate option that describes the language and formatting conventions used in the content of this page.

    2. Page Type - Indicate who can view the page:

      • Leave (the default) Users selected.

      • Or, click Administrators.

    1. If this will be a User-facing page type, select a Page Wrapper to define what the users will see around the top, bottom, and sides of the Page (for example, navigation links, banners, and action menus):

      • Select Use the default Page Wrapper to use the default wrapper for the Security Category in which the page is placed; if no default wrapper exists for that security category, the page will use the default for the General security category; and, if no default exists for the General category, then the page will use the site default wrapper.

        Note: The wrapper for this page will change if the default wrapper changes.

      • Or, select the second radio button indicating that you wish to override the default Page Wrapper -- and then make your selection from the drop-down menu provided. You will have the option of choosing any active page wrapper that is in the same Security Category as your page or any active wrapper in the General Security Category.

        Note: With this second option, the wrapper for your page will not change if the default changes. However, if the wrapper you select is later unpublished for any reason, the page will then use the default wrapper for the Security Category in which the page is placed.

    1. Content Folder, to add this Page:

      • Independently of other Pages, leave the Top Level folder selected

      • Or, to a specific folder with other similar Pages in the Page Library, click the appropriate folder name from the drop-down list to group this Page.

        Note: To define a new folder, use the Manage Content Folders link from the Related Actions section.

    1. Page Properties, to make the information on this Page available: (Only the options that apply to your site will display)

      • As secure information that can be encrypted via the Secure Socket Layer (SSL), click the This is a secure page checkbox.

      • For embedding within other Pages, click the This is a reusable page checkbox. (Reusable will display in the Status column of the Page List to indicate this Page is reusable.)

      • As a syndicated Page that your site affiliates may import to their sites, click the This is a syndicated page checkbox.

  3. Click the Next button. The Identify Version page opens.

  4. On the Identify Version page, for:

    1. Version Name, enter a meaningful number or label to display in the Editable Page Versions list. For example, you can supply information about the purpose of the version (such as V1_AddedNewFeature). If you leave this field blank, the system will automatically use v1 as the name.

    2. Page Title, enter the title that will display in the Web browser to people who view this Page.

    3. Search Keywords, enter single words or phrases that will help search engines locate this Page during searches. You can separate the keywords and phrases with commas. For example, you can enter Siamese cats, cats, seal-point, blue-eyed cats as keywords for a Page about Siamese Cat Breeding. Note that some search engines may not acknowledge the difference between lower and upper case words, while others may.

    4. Page Meta Description, enter a statement of up to 200 letters and numbers that provides information to Web search engines (such as Google and Yahoo) about the content of the Page so they can accurately list and identify it for people who are performing a search. For example, you can enter “Information about breeding Siamese Cats for profit and facts about the American Siamese Cat Association”.

    5. Additional Meta tags, enter the appropriate information to add other HTML information tags for such things as author name, revision dates, scheme, http-equiv refresh rate, and so on.

  1. Click the Next button. If the:

    • Select Page Layout and Add Content page opens, continue with the Step 7.

    • Add Content page opens (because you have selected the single component page layout), skip to Step 8.

  1. On the Select Layout page:
    1. To set up the appropriate number and placement of columns as well as the number of component areas available for content:

      Note: To view a sample of the layout that shows where each content area is positioned, click the Information icon. Another browser window will open to show the placement of the available content areas.

      • Leave the default radio button selected.

      • Or, click the appropriate radio button in the Favorite Layouts displayed.

      • Or, click the Show ALL Layouts link and click the radio button of the appropriate layout.

    1. Click:

      • The Next button if you are simply defining the Page and do not want to add content at this time. The Approve and Publish page opens. Skip to Step 9.

      • Or, the Add Content button. The Add Content page opens with the appropriate columns and empty component areas surrounded by the Page Wrapper (selected earlier).

  1. On the Add Content page:

    Note: You cannot add extra components to a Page layout after you begin adding content to it so it is important to select a layout with the appropriate number of components. Remember that unused component areas do not take up space on your Page.

    1. Click the Select Component icon and then click the appropriate component type from the drop-down list displayed. An appropriate pop-up opens with the fields, drop-down lists, and radio buttons for selecting additional criteria for the component.

      Note: (a) Selecting the HTML Content component displays the WYSIWYG HTML Editor in a new browser window in which you can add blocks of text and images and then format them. (For assistance with using the Editor, click the Help icon on the Editor window.)

      (b) Click the Help button on the Add Content page to display specific online help for working with the components on this page.

    1. Enter the requested information or make the appropriate selections. For assistance, refer to Adding Content to a PageBuilder Component.

    2. Click the Apply button. The the pop-up closes and your new component displays along with the Edit Component , Remove Component , and Change Component icons for working with this content later.

      Warning: You cannot add extra components to a Page layout after you begin adding content to it so it is important to select a layout with the appropriate number of components. Remember that unused component areas do not take up space on your Page.

    1. Repeat the steps above for each component you want on your Page.

      Note: You can click the Hide Empty Components button to remove any unused components from your view. The button label will change back to Show Empty Components.

    1. To see what the Page will look like to your site visitors, click the Preview Page button. Another browser window opens with your Page content displayed.

    2. Close the Preview Page window.

    3. To make changes to a component:

      1. Click the Edit Component icon. The pop-up associated with the component opens again.

      2. Make your changes and then click the Apply button. The pop-up closes and your content displays in the component.

      3. Click the Preview Page button again and view your changes.

      4. Close the Preview Page window and repeat Step g for each component that requires changes.

    1. When you are finished adding your content to each available component, click the Finish button. The Add Content page closes and the Approve and Publish page opens again.

  1. On the Approve and Publish page, to:

    Note: Only options for which you have permissions will display (that is, if you do not have permissions to approve or publish Pages, you will not see those options).

    • Leave the Page as a draft at this time (for example, so you can add more to it or to check some facts), click the Finish button. This page closes and the Page Version List opens with the available actions in the Actions column and Draft in the Status column.

    • Submit the Page to an administrator for approval or peer review, click the Submit for Approval button. This page closes and the Page Version List with the available actions in the Actions column and Pending in the Status column. Note that the Page will be listed as Inactive in the Page List in the Page Library until a published Version is available.

    • Approve this Page Version without publishing, click the Approve Now button. This page closes and the Page Version List opens with the available actions in the Actions column and Approved in the Status column. Note that the Page will be listed as Inactive in the Page List in the Page Library until a published Version is available.

    • Make this Page Version available now and you have the appropriate permissions, click the Publish Now button. This page closes and the Page Version List opens with the available actions in the Actions column and Active in the Status column. Note that the Page is listed as Active in the Page List in the Page Library now.
