Before updating to The Raiser's Edge 7.93, please review the following important information about Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) changes and share it with other software users at your organization.

What is PCI DSS?
PCI DSS is a set of requirements developed by the major credit card companies to enhance credit card data security. All organizations that process, store, or transmit payment card data must be PCI DSS compliant or risk losing the ability to process credit card payments. The Raiser's Edge 7.93 meets the Payment Application Data Security Standards (PA-DSS), a requirement for PCI DSS compliance.

How will credit card data be stored?
The Raiser's Edge 7.93 is changing how credit card data is stored by replacing credit card information in the database with reference tokens and storing this information in the Blackbaud Payment Service (BBPS). All credit card data and merchant account information will be stored in BBPS and only the last four credit card digits will display on constituent and gift records.

What is BBPS?
BBPS is a web service that integrates with the PA DSS-compliant versions of The Raiser's Edge, Blackbaud NetCommunity, and Blackbaud Enterprise CRM to securely store credit card data and merchant account information in a secure, PCI DSS-compliant environment. There is no additional cost or maintenance for using BBPS. For organizations using non-preferred providers with Blackbaud NetCommunity and NetSolutions, we will continue to charge an annual fee. If you have any questions concerning provider fees, contact your contact your account manager at 800.443.9441 or email solutions@blackbaud.com.

Note: If you use NetSolutions, you must create a BBPS account and choose the option to store credit card numbers in BBPS when you update to The Raiser's Edge 7.93. If your organization uses NetSolutions and you choose to run a test conversion, do not open NetSolutions in the test environment or you will lose the ability to download NetSolutions transactions.

How can I download The Raiser's Edge 7.93?
Before you can download The Raiser's Edge 7.93 update, you are required to choose whether or not to use BBPS to store credit card and merchant account information. If you choose to use BBPS, you will be prompted to create an account. After you create an account, you will be able to download the update.

If you choose not to use BBPS, you will be able to download The Raiser's Edge 7.93 without creating an account.

What happens when I install The Raiser's Edge 7.93?
The first user who logs into The Raiser's Edge after you install the update will be prompted to either use BBPS to store credit card data or to delete credit card information from your database. This prompt will appear only once for the first user who logs into the database. Before you install The Raiser's Edge 7.93, we recommend you back up the database.

If you choose to use BBPS, The Raiser's Edge transfers all credit card data in the database to BBPS.

Note: If you choose this option, you will receive the prompt: Is this a test conversion? If you are updating the database in a test environment, click Yes. Your credit card numbers will be stored in BBPS and then deleted after 14 days. If this is not a test conversion, click No.

If you choose not to use BBPS, The Raiser's Edge deletes all credit card information from the database and your organization will no longer be able to process, store, or transmit credit cards in The Raiser's Edge.

What if my organization authorizes credit card transactions by printing or exporting credit card data from The Raiser's Edge?
After you install this update, you will no longer be able to authorize credit card transactions by printing or exporting credit card data from The Raiser's Edge.

In this version, credit card numbers are stored in BBPS. You will no longer be able to view, print, or export credit card numbers.

To authorize credit card transactions in The Raiser's Edge, you must create an account with a credit card processor. Currently, Blackbaud supports the use of IATS and ICVerify to authorize credit card transactions in The Raiser's Edge.

If you choose not to update to the PA DSS-compliant version of The Raiser’s Edge and wish to continue authorizing credit card transactions by printing or exporting credit card data from The Raiser’s Edge, contact a Qualified Security Assessor for advice on how to secure your credit card data and authorize credit card transactions in accordance with PCI DSS.

Additional Considerations:

  • The Raiser's Edge requires Internet access to connect to BBPS.
  • After updating to The Raiser's Edge 7.93, new credit card information and changes to existing credit card information will be sent to BBPS when a record is saved. Only the last four credit card digits will display on constituent and gift records.
  • The update to The Raiser's Edge 7.93 changes passwords to all capital letters (e.g., "PASSWORD1" instead of "password1"). If you do not change your password, you will need to continue using all capital letters to log in. After logging in, we recommend users immediately change their password by selecting Edit, Change Password from The Raiser's Edge menu bar. New passwords created in The Raiser's Edge 7.93 are case-sensitive and must contain both letters and numbers and be a minimum of eight characters.
