Spectrum Health Enhances its Online Presence and Demonstrates Transparency with Blackbaud® NetCommunity™

Spectrum Health is the largest nonprofit health care system in western Michigan. It offers a full continuum of care through the Spectrum Health Hospital Group, a collection of seven hospitals and more than 140 service sites; the Spectrum Health Medical Group, a multi-specialty team of nearly 100 providers; and Priority Health, a health plan with nearly 500,000 members. Spectrum Health's 14,000 employees, 1,500 medical staff members and 2,000 volunteers are committed to delivering the highest quality care to those in medical need. The organization provided $111.1 million in community benefit during its 2008 fiscal year.

Challenge

  • Spectrum Health wanted to update its website to give donors and prospects a more rich online experience and provide new functionality and features.
  • Additionally, Spectrum Health wanted to give donors and supporters the ability to register for events online and set up personal or professional pages, and they wanted this information to be easily accessible to staff.
  • In the process, the organization wanted to expand its online presence to not only provide a website where constituents would feel comfortable, could get the information they needed, and learn about the organization, but also one that was interactive.

Solution

Spectrum Health selected Blackbaud NetCommunity because it offered the online functionality they needed to:

  • Allow contributors to set up personal pages and solicit support online, giving supporters an easy and convenient way to become advocates for the organization.
  • Integrate with The Raiser’s Edge, allowing Spectrum Health to gather more accurate constituent data and streamline the donation process.
  • More accurately decipher donor intent and better determine a donor’s interests.

Results

  • Approximately 80 percent of the organization’s online donors are now new donors.
  • In less than three months of going live, the number of gifts increased by 340 percent.
  • Donation amounts nearly tripled in just three months.
  • Spectrum Health has increased its email address list by 30 percent.
  • By integrating with The Raiser’s Edge, Spectrum Health estimates that it saves approximately 5 minutes of data entry time per donation, freeing up staff to do other things.
