Welcome to The Education Edge 7.84. Before you begin using the program, please take a moment to review the following notes, which highlight some of the new features. It is important to share this information with all Education Edge users in your organization. A shortcut to the Release Notes for The Education Edge has been added to your desktop, so you can access these notes at any time. Admissions Office, Registrar's Office, Student Billing, Faculty Access for the Web, NetClassroom, and Graduation Requirement Management are available as part of The Education Edge only if you have purchased each.

Faculty Access for the Web

  • In Gradebook, teachers can now set the comment status for an entire class all at once. From the Gradebook grid, under Manage comments, select Set comment status. For comments already present in the grid, you can set all those comments as "Ready for Review" or Not Ready" for review. You can also change the status of all the blank comments in the gradebook to "Ready for Review" or "Not Ready" for review.

Scheduled Queue Improvement

  • For users who experienced an issue when importing through a scheduled queue because the queue requires a printer, you can now export the control report instead of printing.  On the Add items to Queue screen, in the Action field, you can now select to export the control report. We added the export option to Import, Global Change, and Administration\Post.

Resource Center

  • In the program, in addition to your help resources from the Help menu, you now have a resource center for more Education Edge help, training, blogs, implementation services, and more!  To access The Education Edge Resource Center, select the Resource Center button in the top right corner of the program.

New Login Screens and Icons

  • With this release, you will notice a new color scheme on the login screen, as well as a few new icons and graphics within the program. For example, The Education Edge desktop icon and the Help menu icons are new.

Updated How-to Documentation on Blackbaud.com

  • On the Blackbaud website, we have an updated how-to documentation page for The Education Edge. In addition to the user guides, you also have information about the help file, system requirements, release notes, the NetClassroom 101: An Illustrated Cheat Sheet, and a link to Faculty Access for the Web help resources.

The following list contains new accounting features and enhancements available in The Education Edge. Specific accounting components, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Receipts, Fixed Assets, Student Billing, Payroll and all other programs and optional modules are available as part of The Education Edge only if you have purchased each.

Be sure to check out The Financial Edge 7.84 walkthrough for more information about the new features, and to view the new features video!

Negative Distributions - Accounts Payable

  • With this release, you can now enter a negative amount on the GL Distribution tab of an accounts payable invoice. By entering a negative amount, you can easily record refunds and\or credits on an invoice, resulting in a net amount. In previous versions of Accounts Payable 7, you could not enter negative distributions, so you had to use miscellaneous entries or credit memos in lieu of negative cash amounts. This change improves data entry efficiency and also helps with reconciliation of the general ledger to subsidiary ledgers, because you no longer have the added miscellaneous entries in the system.

  • For more information, see the Account Payable Records Guide.

Line Item Descriptions - Accounts Payable
  • With this release, we have added a new Description column to the GL Distribution tab of accounts payable invoices so that you can add more detail about specific line items. For example, when entering an invoice, you may need to allocate it to separate expense accounts and want to use separate descriptions for each expense account. Now you can add that information to the line item on the GL Distribution tab.

  • This enhancement improves reporting, as well as account and project activity clarity, by displaying more detail about specific expenses. This information displays in the Reference column of the General Ledger Detail and Post reports. Prior to this release, you could only enter descriptions on the Invoice tab.

  • For more information, see the Account Payable Records Guide.

Bank Reconciliation - Cash Management

  • With this release, we have added the ability to easily access bank reconciliations from previous months. This is helpful when you or your auditors need to access that information and a hard copy is not available. It also saves you time because you can select the exact reconciliation and its date without researching reconciliation dates. To access bank reconciliations from previous months, you can select “Historical Reconciliation” in the Print field when running a Bank Reconciliation Report.

Scheduled Queue Improvement

  • For users who experienced an issue when importing through a scheduled queue because the queue requires a printer, you can now export the control report instead of printing.  On the Add items to Queue screen, in the Action field, you can now select to export the control report.
