Gift Insight Recipes

With Insight Designer, you can pair attributes with facts to break down totals and compare categorical data. Think of these as recipes for frequent giving analysis, with the facts and attributes as the main ingredients. Apply additional attribute filters to add your own flavor!

Giving toward campaigns compared to their goals

In Raiser's Edge NXT, you can compare giving toward campaigns to their set goals.

At the top of the record of a campaign, you can view how much it raised toward its goal and its overall progress, as a percentage. For more information, see Campaign Overview.
In Fundraising, Analyze or Reporting, you can quickly compare giving toward your 20 top-grossing active campaigns to their goals under Overview or Campaigns. For more information, see Top Campaigns Analysis.

To compare giving toward specific campaigns to their goals:

In Analysis, Report builder, select Insights and Add .
Select Column chart or Bar chart .
Move Campaign goal and Gift amount from the data catalogue to Facts.
To analyze the fundraising progress toward the campaign goal:
1. Select +, Create metric.
2. Under Outcome, select Ratio.
3. Under Where, choose Gift amount and Campaign goal for A and B, respectively.
Move Campaign description or Campaign short description to View by.
Under Filters, select Campaign description or Campaign short description, choose which campaigns to analyze, and select Apply.
Select Save, enter a unique name to identify the insight, and select Save.

Giving toward funds compared to their goals

In Raiser's Edge NXT, you can compare giving toward funds to their set goals.

At the top of the record of a fund, you can view how much it raised toward its goal and its overall progress, as a percentage. For more information, see Fund Overview.
In Fundraising, Analyze or Reporting, you can quickly compare giving toward your 20 top-grossing active funds to their goals under Overview or Funds. For more information, see Top Funds Analysis.

To compare giving toward specific funds to their goals:

In Analysis, Report builder, select Insights and Add .
Select Column chart or Bar chart .
Move Fund goal and Gift amount from the data catalogue to Facts.
To analyze the fundraising progress toward the fund goal:
1. Select +, Create metric.
2. Under Outcome, select Ratio.
3. Under Where, choose Gift amount and Fund goal for A and B, respectively.
Move Fund description or Fund short description to View by.
Under Filters, select Fund description or Fund short description, choose which funds to analyze, and select Apply.
Select Save, enter a unique name to identify the insight, and select Save.

Giving toward appeals compared by gift type

In Fundraising, Analyze or Reporting, you can gauge and compare giving received through your appeals under Appeals. To gauge whether specific appeals acquire more commitments or cash-in-hand giving, you can also apply the Revenue type filter to include only gift types counted as received or committed revenue. For more information, see Appeals Analysis.

To compare specific gift types acquired each month by specific appeals:

In Analysis, Report builder, select Insights and Add .
Select Column chart or Bar chart .
For each appeal and gift type to analyze, move Gift amount from the data catalogue to Facts. For example, to compare two gift types — like one-time gifts and pledges — given toward two appeals, move four instances of Gift amount to Facts.
For each Gift amount, specify which gift type and appeal to analyze.
1. Select Gift amount under Facts.
2. Select Add attribute filter and Gift type.
3. Select Clear, choose which gift type to analyze, and select Apply.
4. Select Add attribute filter and Appeal description or Appeal short description.
5. Select Clear, choose which appeal to analyze, and select Apply.
Move Date to View by, and select 'Gift date, calendar' and Month.
Select Save, enter a unique name to identify the insight, and select Save.

Giving toward appeals compared to their goals

In Raiser's Edge NXT, you can compare giving toward appeals to their set goals.

Move Appeal description or Appeal short description to View by.
Under Filters, select Appeal description or Appeal short description, choose which appeals to analyze, and select Apply.
Select Save, enter a unique name to identify the insight, and select Save.

Giving through appeal categories by fiscal year

To group like appeals together, you can assign them a category. For example, if your organization runs several appeals each year, you can assign them a category of Annual. To compare giving acquired through specific appeal categories by fiscal year:

In Analysis, Report builder, Insights, Add .
Select Column chart or Bar chart .
Move Gift amount from the data catalogue to Facts.
Specify which appeal categories to analyze.
1. Select Gift amount under Facts.
2. Select Add attribute filter.
3. Select Appeal category, choose which to include, and select Apply.
Move Date to View by, and select 'Gift date, fiscal' and Year.
Move Appeal category to Stack by.
Select Save, enter a unique name to identify the insight, and select Save.

Tip: To analyze giving acquired through a specific appeal category, skip the Stack by field and select Pie chart instead.

Giving toward campaigns, funds, or appeals by age group

In Raiser's Edge NXT, you can analyze giving toward campaigns, funds, and appeals in context of the donors' age groups.

On the record of a campaign, fund, or appeal, you can analyze its giving by the donors' generations under Gifts by age group.
In Fundraising, Analyze or Reporting, you can quickly compare giving toward your 20 top-grossing active campaigns, funds, or appeals by the donors' age groups under Campaigns, Funds, or Appeals.

To compare similar demographic giving across specific campaigns, funds, or appeals:

In Analysis, Report builder, select Insights and Add .
Select Column chart or Bar chart .
Move Gift amount from the data catalogue to Facts.
Specify which campaigns, funds, or appeals to analyze.
1. Select Gift amount under Facts.
2. Select Add attribute filter.
3. Select how to identify the campaigns, funds, or appeals in the insight, such as Campaign description or Fund short description.
4. Choose which campaigns, funds, or appeals to include, and select Apply.
Move Constituent age group to View by.
Move the attribute used with the fact's filter — such as Campaign description or Fund short description — to Stack by.
Select Save, enter a unique name to identify the insight, and select Save.

Giving toward campaigns or funds by donor classification

With Prospect Research Management, you can track how your organization identifies a prospect, such as Individual, Corporate, or Major Donor. To compare how much each classification gives toward specific campaigns or funds:

In Analysis, Report builder, select Insights and Add .
Select Column chart or Bar chart.
Move Gift amount from the data catalogue to Facts.
Specify which campaigns or funds to analyze.
1. Select Gift amount under Facts.
2. Select Add attribute filter.
3. Select how to identify the campaigns or funds in the insight, such as Campaign description or Fund short description.
4. Choose which campaigns or funds to include, and select Apply.
Move Constituent classification to View by.
Move the attribute used with the fact's filter — such as Campaign description or Fund short description — to Stack by.
Select Save, enter a unique name to identify the insight, and select Save.

Past due pledges

On the Overview dashboard in Fundraising, Analyze or Reporting, under Giving, you can quickly view Total past due for how much you expect from overdue commitments, based on gift types included in the Revenue type filter.

To analyze only your pledges and how many are past due:

In Analysis, Report builder, select Insights and Add .
Select Column chart or Bar chart .
Move Gifts, committed and Pledges past due from the data catalogue to Facts.
Filter Gifts, committed to include only pledges.
1. Expand the fact, and select Add attribute filter.
2. Search for and select Gift type.
3. Clear All, and select Pledge.
4. Select Apply.
To analyze the rate of pledges that are past due:
1. Select +, Create metric.
2. Under Outcome, select Ratio.
3. Under Where, choose Pledges past due and Gifts, committed for A and B, respectively.
Select Save, enter a unique name to identify the insight, and select Save.

Year-over-year giving

On the Overview dashboard in Fundraising, Analyze or Reporting, under Giving, you can compare giving over the current fiscal year to the previous two years under Year-over-year performance. To focus on giving toward specific fundraising efforts, you can apply the Campaign description or Fund description filters.

To compare your current fiscal or calendar year's giving to the previous year:

In Analysis, Report builder, select Insights and Add .
Select Column chart or Bar chart .
Move Gift amount received from the data catalogue to Facts twice.
For the each Gift amount received fact:
1. Expand the fact and select Filter by date.
2. In the Filter field, select Gift date, calendar or Gift date, fiscal — depending on your preference — and the period to analyze — This year or Last year.
3. Rename this fact to clarify which year it reflects.
To analyze the difference between the two years:
1. Select +, Create metric.
2. Under Outcome, select Difference.
3. Under Where, choose the previous year's fact and the current year's fact for A and B, respectively.
To focus on giving toward specific fundraising efforts:
1. Move Campaign description or Fund description from the data catalogue, to Filters.
2. Choose which campaigns or funds to analyze.
3. Select Apply.
Select Save, enter a unique name to identify the insight, and select Save.
