Idea to Feature: Security Updates
We're always looking for ways to keep your data and your school communities more secure. Before all users make the switch to BBID, our most secure way of logging into your systems, we always recommend that users create strong passwords and update them regularly. To that end, we have recently released updated password options.
In the past, platform managers only had a few options when setting up password minimum standards for their users. We've recently added special characters, upper and lowercase password options. In addition, we now require all non-BBID users to create passwords 12 characters in length minimum, include at least one number, one uppercase, one lowercase, and one special character. Platform managers can always require more of any of those options for their communities. With passwords, more complexity is always better.
Another way we've enhanced security for your communities is by inactivating old user accounts. Now, if a user has not logged in in the past 365 days, or more, days they're automatically inactivated. When they next attempt to log in, they will be prompted to call your school to be reinstated. You can view any inactivated user accounts on the BBID authorization report, located in the Core Security BBID authentication. Click on the unregistered tab and then the filter button. Uncheck the hide inactivated check box and look in the warning column to find your inactivated user accounts.
We're so excited to bring you these security enhancements to ensure your data stays secure. If you have an idea you'd like to become a feature, let us know in the Blackbaud K–12 Community.
