From Inbox to Invoice: Document Intelligence Brings More Automation to Payables

Turning Invoice Documents into Ready-to-Review Records

Document Intelligence uses Blackbaud AI to extract key information from invoices, including vendor names, amounts, dates and line items. It uses that information to populate an invoice record in Financial Edge NXT, allowing the finance team to confirm the details before moving forward.

This practical assistance is embedded directly into the financial management system customers already use. Finance teams gain a faster path from document to record without adding a separate tool or disconnected process, and every invoice remains subject to human review before it is approved or paid.

Extending Automation to the Inbox

For many organizations, invoice processing begins in email. Staff must monitor a shared inbox, identify invoice attachments and move those documents into the appropriate system before review can begin.

Inbox Automation handles that front end by moving invoice documents from email into Document Intelligence for processing. Connecting intake with AI-assisted data extraction reduces sorting and repetitive work while preserving visibility into each invoice.

The result is a more connected experience from invoice receipt to review, with finance teams remaining in control before an invoice is approved or paid.
