Blackbaud University training helps an employee grow individually and train her entire team.

PARC provides more than 40 services to over 800 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in and around St. Petersburg, Fla. Despite its robust network, the nonprofit organization lacked consistency in how it handled fundraising and relationship management – and knew it needed the right person with the right training to take campaigns to the next level.

Patty Gauss calls herself the poster child of the Great Recession. After a layoff, she bounced around temporary jobs, finding positions she enjoyed but never at a salary commensurate with her education and experience.

When Patty finally landed in a data management position with growth potential at a nonprofit, she latched onto Blackbaud’s training for its flagship fundraising solution. She earned certifications and became the only person in her organization using the tool—and therefore the go-to expert on relationship management technology.

After a few years, Patty saw a position advertised at PARC, which provides more than 40 services to over 800 children and adults with intellectual anddevelopmental disabilities in and around St. Petersburg, Florida. Patty loved the mission. Although PARC needed a part-time employee to oversee its work with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT, Patty so impressed the hiring manager with her experience that the organization expanded the role to full time for her.

PARC Development Director Laurie Pinover explained that while PARC had used Blackbaud’s fundraising solution since the late 1990s, the organization needed consistency. “We wanted someone who understood how the database should be used,” Laurie said. “Patty’s certification made a huge difference to us."
